{
"question": "Where to stay near the Ouzoud Waterfalls?",
"answer": "The simplest choice is a guesthouse, riad or small hotel at the top of the falls, within a few hundred metres of the main drop. On OpenStreetMap we counted 16 places to stay within 3 km, 10 of them within 400 m. A few campsites and kasbah-style places sit further out, up to about 2.5 km. Check that the place is open, read recent reviews and ask how you reach the door with luggage."
},
{
"question": "Are there hotels near Ouzoud Falls?",
"answer": "Yes. Small hotels, riads and guesthouses stand at the top of the gorge, mostly a short walk from the viewpoints. Our table lists 9 hotels or riads, 1 guesthouse and 1 auberge mapped on OpenStreetMap, plus 5 campsites. Do not expect large resort hotels: these are small, often family-run places. We have no partnership with any of them and give the list for information only."
},
{
"question": "How far are the hotels from the falls?",
"answer": "Straight-line distances from the main falls range from about 100 m to 2.5 km for the places mapped on OpenStreetMap. Ten of the 16 are within 400 m, so you can walk to the top viewpoints in a few minutes. The walking distance is longer than the straight line, and going down to the foot of the falls takes about 20 minutes on a path with steps."
},
{
"question": "Is there camping at the Ouzoud Waterfalls?",
"answer": "Yes. Five campsites appear on OpenStreetMap within 3 km of the falls, the closest about 200 m away and the furthest about 2.5 km. Simple campsites are part of the scene at Ouzoud. Summer nights are mild, with average lows of about 19 °C in July and August, but winter nights fall to about 3 to 5 °C, so camping then needs warm gear."
},
{
"question": "Is it worth staying overnight at Ouzoud?",
"answer": "For most travellers, no: a day trip from Marrakech gives you 3 to 4 hours at the falls, enough for the walk, the boat and lunch. A night is worth it if you want the paths early in the morning before the day visitors arrive, if you photograph the falls in different light, if you like to travel slowly, or if you continue towards Azilal, Bin El Ouidane or Béni Mellal."
},
{
"question": "Can I see Ouzoud at sunrise?",
"answer": "Only if you sleep nearby. Ouzoud is about 3 hours from Marrakech by road, so even an early departure puts you at the falls in late morning. From a guesthouse at the top, you can walk to the viewpoints at first light, when the paths are quiet. Bring a torch for the steps, and do not count on cafés or boats being open that early."
},
{
"question": "What are the Ouzoud Waterfalls like at night?",
"answer": "Quiet. After the day visitors leave, the terraces and guesthouses at the top of the gorge light up, and you hear the water more than the people. The falls themselves are not a night attraction, and we would not walk down the steps to the bottom in the dark. Enjoy the view from a terrace and keep the walk for the morning."
},
{
"question": "Can I book a hotel at Ouzoud with you?",
"answer": "No. We are a licensed tourist transport company and we run private day trips from Marrakech; we do not book rooms and have no partnership with any place at Ouzoud. Book your room directly with the place or through the booking site you usually use. If you want to sleep at Ouzoud, contact us on WhatsApp and we will tell you what we can arrange for the transport."
},
{
"question": "Which is better: a day trip or a night at Ouzoud?",
"answer": "A day trip is simpler and cheaper for most people: one price per vehicle, no room, back in Marrakech in the early evening. A night at Ouzoud costs a room and more time, but gives you the falls in the evening and early morning without crowds, and more freedom to walk both banks slowly. Choose the night if you have time to spare in your trip."

"content_markdown": "For most travellers, a day trip from Marrakech is enough to see the Ouzoud Waterfalls well. You leave around 8:00, drive about 3 hours, spend 3 to 4 hours at the falls and are back in the city in the early evening. Spending the night at Ouzoud is worth it for a smaller group of people: those who want the paths in the quiet of the early morning, photographers, slow travellers, and anyone continuing east towards Azilal, Bin El Ouidane or the M'Goun area rather than returning to Marrakech.\n\nIf you do want to stay, there is no shortage of beds. We extracted every place to stay mapped on OpenStreetMap within 3 km of the falls: 16 in total, from small hotels and riads at the top of the gorge to campsites further out. The table is below, with straight-line distances to the main falls.\n\nOne thing to say clearly before we go on: we run private day trips and transport from Marrakech, and we do not sell hotel rooms. We have no partnership with any of the places listed here, we do not rank them and we do not receive anything if you book one. This page is here to help you decide, not to sell you a night.\n\n## Is it worth spending the night at Ouzoud? Our verdict\n\nHere is our view in a few lines:\n\n- **A day trip is enough** if your goal is to see the falls, walk down to the bottom, take the boat and have lunch on a terrace. Three to four hours on site covers that comfortably.\n- **A night is worth it** if you want to be on the paths before the day visitors arrive, which is in late morning for anyone coming from Marrakech.\n- **A night is worth it** for photographers who want the falls in soft morning or evening light, and without people in every frame.\n- **A night is worth it** for slow travellers who would rather walk both banks over two half days than squeeze everything into one afternoon.\n- **A night makes sense** if Ouzoud is a stop on a longer route: Azilal is 37 km away, Bin El Ouidane 67 km and Béni Mellal 92 km by road.\n- **A night is less useful** if you have only a few days in Morocco and are based in Marrakech: you would spend two half days on the road and pay for a room for one extra morning.\n\nIf you are still deciding whether to go at all, our page [is Ouzoud worth it?](https://ouzoudexcursions.com/are-ouzoud-waterfalls-worth-it/) weighs the drive against what you see.\n\n## Where can you stay near the Ouzoud Waterfalls?\n\nThese are the places to stay that OpenStreetMap contributors have mapped within 3 km of the falls. We sorted them by straight-line distance to the main drop.\n\n Name (as listed on OpenStreetMap) Type Distance to the main falls (straight line) Riad Cascades d'Ouzoud Hotel or riad 100 m Dar Essalam Hotel or riad 150 m Riad Dar Fatna Guesthouse 200 m Hotel de France Hotel or riad 200 m Camping de la Nature Campsite 200 m Hotel Chellal Ouzoud Hotel or riad 250 m Imouzzer Campsite 300 m Borj des Cascades Hotel or riad 350 m Le Panard Campsite 400 m Riad Dar Ouzoud Hotel or riad 400 m Dar Aya Hotel or riad 550 m Auberge Ajil Hostel (auberge) 600 m Kasbah Oum Hani Hotel or riad 750 m La Kasbah d'Ouzoud Hotel or riad 1.1 km Zebra Camping Campsite 1.2 km Camping Traumschiff Walhalla Campsite 2.5 km Accommodation mapped on OpenStreetMap within 3 km of the falls, extracted on 23 October 2026 (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL). Listed for information only: we have no partnership with these places and do not book rooms. Check that a place is open, its prices and reviews before you book. \nA few things stand out from the data. Most places sit at the top of the falls, within a few hundred metres of the main viewpoints: 10 of the 16 are within 400 m. A few campsites and kasbah-style places lie further out, between about 750 m and 2.5 km. By type, the map shows 9 hotels or riads, 1 guesthouse, 1 auberge and 5 campsites.\n\nKeep in mind the limits of this list. OpenStreetMap is built by volunteers, so a place can be missing, closed, renamed or listed under a slightly different type. A distance \"as the crow flies\" is also shorter than the walk, which follows streets, paths and steps. Use the table to understand where things are, then check each place yourself before booking. For the layout of the site itself (viewpoints, paths on both banks, the boat landing), see our [map of the Ouzoud Waterfalls](https://ouzoudexcursions.com/ouzoud-waterfalls-map/).\n\n## What kinds of accommodation are there at Ouzoud?\n\nWe do not review or recommend individual places, but we can explain the main types you will come across, in general terms.\n\n### Guesthouses and riads at the top of the falls\n\nThis is the most common type close to the falls. They are usually small houses with a handful of rooms, often run by a family, and some have a terrace looking over the gorge. \"Riad\" is used loosely here: in Marrakech it means a house built around an inner courtyard, while at Ouzoud the word often just signals a traditional-style guesthouse. The main advantage is location. You can walk to the viewpoints in a few minutes and be on the path down at any hour.\n\n### Small hotels\n\nA few places call themselves hotels. Expect a modest, simple hotel rather than a large building with a long list of services. Being at the top of the falls, they share the same advantage as guesthouses: the falls on your doorstep.\n\n### Kasbah-style places further out\n\nSome places use the word \"kasbah\", which in Morocco refers to a fortified earth or stone house. Around Ouzoud, these tend to sit a little further from the falls, roughly between 750 m and 1.1 km on our table. That can mean more calm at night and wider views over the countryside, at the cost of a longer walk or a short drive to the paths.\n\n### Campsites\n\nSimple campsites are a long-standing part of the scene at Ouzoud, and five appear on our map, from about 200 m to 2.5 km from the falls. Some travellers arrive with a tent, others with a camper van. Facilities vary a lot from one campsite to the next, so check what is available before you count on hot water, electricity or shade.\n\n### Auberge\n\nOne place on the map is listed as an auberge, a word used in Morocco for a simple inn or hostel-style lodging. It sits about 600 m from the falls.\n\n## Day trip or overnight: how do they compare?\n\nThis table sums up the trade-offs as we see them.\n\n| | Day trip from Marrakech | One night at Ouzoud |\n|---|---|---|\n| Time at the falls | About 3 to 4 hours, from late morning to mid-afternoon | Evening, early morning and the next day, as long as you like |\n| Crowds | You arrive with the other day visitors, busiest around midday | Quiet paths at sunrise and in the evening, before and after the day visitors |\n| Light for photos | Midday light, often harsh in summer | Soft morning and evening light |\n| Cost logic | One price per vehicle for the return trip, no room | A room (price set by each place) plus transport there and back |\n| Comfort | Your own bed in Marrakech, but about 6 hours in a vehicle in one day | Driving split over two days, but a simpler room than in Marrakech in many cases |\n| Flexibility | Fixed by the return drive; you leave the falls mid-afternoon | Free to walk both banks slowly, or continue east the next day |\n| Planning | One booking, nothing else to organise | Room to book, luggage to carry, transport to arrange |\n\nFor our own day trips, the price is per vehicle for your whole group: private transport with a driver is 180 € (1 to 7 people) or 250 € (8 to 17), our private tour with a local guide at the falls is 220 € or 330 €, and the premium day is 220 € or 330 € plus 35 € per person. Full details are on our [private driver](https://ouzoudexcursions.com/private-driver-marrakech-ouzoud/) page and the related offers.\n\n## What is Ouzoud like in the evening and early morning?\n\nVery different from midday. Day visitors from Marrakech cannot reach the falls much before late morning, and most leave by mid-afternoon to be back in the city in the early evening. Before and after that window, the paths empty out. The stalls and boats that make the lower area lively during the day are far fewer or not running at all, and you hear the water rather than the crowd.\n\nIn the evening, the terraces, restaurants and guesthouses along the top of the gorge light up. The night view is about the lights around the gorge and the sound of the water. This short video, filmed after dark, gives an idea:\n\nVideo: Ouzoud Waterfalls at night https://www.youtube.com/shorts/qyOsmpBHiB8\nEarly morning is the time photographers and walkers look for. From a guesthouse at the top, you can be at the viewpoints at first light and walk down to the foot of the falls on an almost empty path, about 20 minutes on foot. Two practical points: bring a torch or use your phone light if you set off before full daylight, because the path has steps and slopes, and do not count on cafés or boats being open that early.\n\nThe Barbary macaques live around the falls at all hours of the day. Whatever time you walk, please do not feed them: peer-reviewed research at Ouzoud links feeding by tourists to more competition and aggression in the troop and to the troop splitting in two.\n\n## Which season suits a night at Ouzoud?\n\nEach season changes what a night at the falls feels like. These are average temperatures measured at the falls over 30 years (Open-Meteo, 1995-2024):\n\n| Season | Average highs | Average lows (night) | What it means for a night |\n|---|---|---|---|\n| Winter (Dec to Feb) | 16 to 18 °C | about 3 to 5 °C | Cold nights: ask about heating and extra blankets |\n| Spring (Mar to May) | 20 to 26 °C | 6 to 12 °C | Pleasant days, cool nights, some rain |\n| Summer (Jun to Aug) | 31 to 35 °C | 16 to 19 °C | Mild evenings, good for terraces and camping |\n| Autumn (Sep to Nov) | 30 °C falling to 20 °C | 16 °C falling to 8 °C | Warm early autumn, cooler nights by November |\n\nSummer is the season when a night at Ouzoud makes the most sense for comfort: the days are hot, around 35 °C on average in July and August, but the evenings are mild and the early morning is the most pleasant time to walk. Winter is quiet and the falls flow all year, but nights are close to freezing on the coldest dates, with average lows of 3.3 °C in January. Rain falls mostly from November to April. For all twelve months, see our page on the [weather at Ouzoud](https://ouzoudexcursions.com/ouzoud-weather-best-time-to-visit/).\n\n## What should you check before booking a room at Ouzoud?\n\nWe cannot vouch for any place, so here is a neutral checklist to run through before you book anywhere.\n\n- **Is it open?** Small places can close for part of the year or change hands. Look for recent reviews or a recent reply from the owner, and confirm your dates directly.\n- **Access with luggage.** Around the falls, many routes involve steps and slopes. Ask whether a car can stop near the door, and how far you will carry your bags if not.\n- **Parking.** If you drive yourself, ask where you can leave the car overnight.\n- **Heating in winter.** With nights around 3 to 5 °C from December to February, heating or warm bedding matters. Ask before you book.\n- **Hot water and electricity.** Especially at campsites, check what is provided.\n- **Payment methods.** Ask whether the place takes cards or only cash, and plan cash for the stay if needed. Our own balance is also paid in cash to the driver.\n- **Meals.** Some places serve dinner and breakfast; ask, and mention any dietary needs.\n- **Reviews.** Read several recent ones, on more than one site if you can, and look for comments on cleanliness, noise and the welcome.\n- **Exact location.** Check the place on a map. Our table gives straight-line distances; the walk can be longer.\n\n## How do you get to Ouzoud and back if you sleep there?\n\nThe falls are 160 km from Marrakech by road, about 3 hours without stops, by our calculation on OpenStreetMap data. The route follows the N8 towards Fès, then regional roads through Azilal Province to the falls. Our page on [distances to Ouzoud](https://ouzoudexcursions.com/ouzoud-distance-from-cities/) gives road distances and driving times from other cities too.\n\nIf you sleep at Ouzoud, we can drive you there and back with our [private transfer](https://ouzoudexcursions.com/marrakech-ouzoud-transfer/) from your hotel or riad in Marrakech, or from Marrakech Menara Airport, to any of the places in the table above: 180 EUR per vehicle one way for 1 to 7 people, 250 EUR for 8 to 17, and a return is two transfers. Each accommodation has its own transfer page with the road distance and time, for example [Riad Dar Fatna](https://ouzoudexcursions.com/marrakech-transfer-to-riad-dar-fatna/) or [Hotel de France](https://ouzoudexcursions.com/marrakech-transfer-to-hotel-de-france/). If you do not sleep there, our day trips bring you back to Marrakech the same evening.\n\nIf you drive yourself, the road is paved all the way, but the last section winds through hills: drive it in daylight if you can, and keep in mind that arriving after dark with luggage at a place reached by steps is not much fun.\n\n## Where can you go after a night at Ouzoud?\n\nStaying overnight makes the most sense when Ouzoud is not a return trip but a stop on a route. These are road distances and approximate driving times from the falls, calculated with OSRM on OpenStreetMap data:\n\n| From the Ouzoud Waterfalls to | Distance by road | Approximate driving time |\n|---|---|---|\n| Azilal | 37 km | about 50 min |\n| Demnate | 65 km | about 1 h 20 |\n| Bin El Ouidane | 67 km | about 1 h 25 |\n| Béni Mellal | 92 km | about 1 h 50 |\n| Marrakech | 160 km | about 3 h |\n\nAzilal is the provincial capital, and the province is home to the M'Goun UNESCO Global Geopark, designated in 2015 and covering about 573,000 ha. Bin El Ouidane is a large reservoir behind a dam built in 1953 on the Oued El Abid, the same river whose gorge the falls drop into. Near Demnate, the natural limestone arch of Imi n'Ifri is another geosite of the Geopark. Béni Mellal is the capital of the Béni Mellal-Khénifra region. A night at Ouzoud turns the falls into the first stage of a trip into this region rather than a long day out from Marrakech.\n\n## So, should you stay or go back the same day?\n\nGo back the same day if you have a few days in Marrakech, want a simple plan and are happy with 3 to 4 hours at the falls. That is what most visitors do, and it works well. Stay the night if you have time to spare, want Ouzoud at its quietest, care about light for photos, or are heading further into the Atlas. In both cases, our [complete guide to Ouzoud](https://ouzoudexcursions.com/ouzoud-waterfalls-guide/) covers the walk, the boat, the macaques and what to bring.\n\n## Sources\n\n- [OpenStreetMap, places to stay within 3 km of the falls (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL), extracted on 23 October 2026](https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=15/32.0152/-6.7189)\n- [Open-Meteo historical weather API (ERA5 reanalysis), daily averages 1995-2024 at the falls, calculated on 23 October 2026](https://open-meteo.com/en/docs/historical-weather-api)\n- [OpenStreetMap routing (OSRM), road distances and driving times, calculated on 22 October 2026](https://map.project-osrm.org/)\n- [Wikipedia, Ouzoud Falls (Azilal Province, 110 m)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ouzoud_Falls)\n- [Wikipedia, Cascades d'Ouzoud (campsites, terrace restaurants; in French)](https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cascades_d%27Ouzoud)\n- [Lonely Planet, Cascades d'Ouzoud (paved path, terrace cafés, crowds)](https://www.lonelyplanet.com/points-of-interest/cascades-douzoud/1554173)\n- [M'Goun UNESCO Global Geopark, geosites (Ouzoud, Bin El Ouidane, Imi n'Ifri)](https://www.geoparcmgoun.ma/discover)\n- [UNESCO, M'Goun UNESCO Global Geopark (designated 2015)](https://www.unesco.org/en/iggp/mgoun-unesco-global-geopark)\n- [El Alami and Chait, Revue de primatologie 7 (2016), the Barbary macaques of Ouzoud](https://journals.openedition.org/primatologie/2593)",
