Shipped Away (updated May 2026) also says there is no direct public bus to Ouzoud.\n\nWhat this means for a day trip:\n\n- **No timetable you can rely on.** We could not find a timetable for the Azilal route that we could check and date, so you cannot plan the day in advance.\n- **Waiting time.** Shared taxis leave when they are full. Each change adds waiting to a road that already takes about 3 hours by car.\n- **The return is the hard part.** Late in the day there may be fewer taxis back to Azilal, and the bus to Marrakech will not wait.\n- **A night at Ouzoud.** Shipped Away writes that the bus \"takes much longer than you would expect\" and advises an overnight trip. Several travel blogs say the same.\n\nPublic transport therefore suits travellers who plan to sleep at Ouzoud. If you want to go and come back the same day from Marrakech, private transport takes the uncertainty out: one vehicle, one driver, a fixed meeting time at the falls.\n\n## Can you take a taxi from Marrakech to Ouzoud?\n\nYes, you can hire a whole taxi for the day. There is no fixed fare. The route planner Rome2Rio showed an estimate of 1,400 to 1,700 MAD for a direct taxi from Marrakech to Ouzoud when we checked in October 2026. That figure is calculated by a website, not quoted by a driver, so take it as an order of magnitude only. The falls are about 160 km and around 3 h 04 without stops from Marrakech by our calculation. From Marrakech, the road follows the N8 towards Fès as far as the Tamelelt area, then regional roads east towards Tanant, and the R304 north to Ouzoud. That is the numbering on OpenStreetMap: road numbers differ between maps and signs, and many websites still call the last road the R208, an older number.\n\nWhat driving yourself involves for a day trip:\n\n- **About 6 hours at the wheel** for the return, about 320 km in all.\n- **A winding final section** through hills and olive groves, with slow trucks and buses.\n- **Villages** with people, bicycles and animals near the road, and speed bumps. Police speed checks are common on Moroccan roads.\n- **Leaving Marrakech** through busy streets, which Shipped Away describes as the first challenge.\n- **Parking at the top.** Cars stop around the village on the south side of the gorge, where OpenStreetMap shows five car parks. Attendants usually ask for a small fee, and you cannot drive down to the falls.\n- **Daylight.** The mountain section is much harder in the dark, so the drive back has to start in good time.\n\nA rental car suits a longer road trip. The climb back takes longer. Paths run on both banks, so you can cross near the bottom and come up the other side.
