The day, step by step
Pickup in Marrakech
Around 8:00 your driver meets you at the hotel entrance, or at the gate or car park closest to your riad if you stay in the medina. The exact time and point are confirmed the day before.
Drive towards the Atlas
The road leaves the Haouz plain and heads north-east towards Azilal Province, with the High Atlas foothills ahead. The drive takes about three hours and you can ask for a short coffee or photo stop.
Meet your local guide at Ouzoud
On arrival, at about 1,060 m of altitude, your local guide joins the group. You agree on the pace and on what you want to see, depending on the time you have and who is walking.
Walk to the foot of the falls
The guide leads you down the paved path past terrace cafés and craft stalls, then to the viewpoints over the three tiers. Along the way: the old mills, the olive groves and the Barbary macaques.
Boat ride, lunch and free time
At the bottom you can take the small boat towards the spray and have lunch on a terrace facing the falls, if you added these options. Otherwise the time is yours for photos and rest.
Climb back and return
You walk back up, by the same path or by the opposite bank depending on energy, and meet the driver at the vehicle. The drive to Marrakech brings you back in the early evening.
The private Ouzoud tour in brief
This is our main day trip: a private vehicle from Marrakech to the Ouzoud Waterfalls and a local guide who walks with your group once you arrive. You leave around 8:00, drive about three hours, spend three to four hours at the falls with a guide for the walk and the viewpoints, and are back in Marrakech in the early evening. The price is per vehicle, for the whole group, and we confirm it in writing before you pay.
It suits a first visit, families, and anyone who prefers to understand what they are looking at instead of following the crowd down the main path.
What makes this tour different from transport only
On the private transport offer, the driver takes you there and waits while you explore alone. On this tour, a local guide joins you at Ouzoud. The guide knows the site well: which bank gives the clearest view of the three tiers, how to reach the foot of the falls at a comfortable pace, where the old mills are, how to watch the macaques without disturbing them, and which terraces are pleasant for lunch.
The driver stays a driver. The guide is a separate person from the area, met at the falls. That split keeps the drive relaxed and gives you someone on foot who can adapt the walk to your group.
The day, step by step
The itinerary below is the usual shape of the day. Your guide adjusts the walk to the season, the crowds and the pace of your group.

What you will see at Ouzoud
- The falls themselves: the Oued Ouzoud drops about 110 m in three tiers into the gorge of the Oued El Abid. From the upper viewpoints you see the whole height; from the bottom you feel the spray.
- Both banks: paths run on each side of the gorge. Many visitors only use the main path; with a guide you can go down one side and up the other.
- The mills: small traditional mills stand along the stream, in an olive-grove setting. Some still work.
- The Barbary macaques: a troop lives around the falls. The species is listed as Endangered by the IUCN, and research at Ouzoud links feeding by tourists to stress, aggression and the splitting of the group. Your guide will help you watch them at a respectful distance, without feeding them.
- The terraces: cafés and restaurants line the path down and the foot of the falls, with tajines and mint tea facing the water.

Options: boat ride and lunch
Two options are popular on this tour. The boat ride takes you on a small raft close to the foot of the falls, under the spray. Lunch is on a terrace by the water, usually tajine. You can add either one when you request your quote, and we include it in the total. Our page on the boat and lunch describes both. Tell us about any dietary needs, such as vegetarian meals, when you book.
Price and payment
We do not price per person. You pay for the vehicle, the driver and the guide, for your whole group, plus any options you choose. The total depends on the number of travellers (7-seat minivan or 17-seat minibus) and the options. The prices page explains what changes the total.
You receive the total in writing before any payment. To confirm, you pay a 50% deposit online by PayPal or bank card through PayPal, and the balance in cash to the driver on the day. Cancellation is free up to 48 hours before the trip, with the deposit refunded in full.
When to go
The falls flow all year, fed by a karst spring, but they change with the seasons. In spring the flow is usually at its strongest and the valley is green. In late summer the flow is lower and the site is busier, especially at summer weekends. Winter is cooler and quieter, with fewer people on the path. After heavy rain the water can turn red-brown for a while, which is impressive but less photogenic.
Whatever the season, leaving Marrakech around 8:00 means you reach Ouzoud before the middle of the day and have time for the walk, lunch and the climb without rushing. Tell us if you prefer a different start time and we will see what works with your pickup point.
Travelling with children or older relatives
The tour works well for families, as long as you plan for the steps. The way down takes about 20 minutes and the climb back takes longer, so the guide sets an easy pace and suggests stops at the cafés along the path. A pushchair is hard on the steps; a baby carrier is easier. Tell us the ages of the children, and anyone who finds stairs difficult, when you book. We do not promise child seats, so ask us if you need one and we will tell you honestly what is possible.
Practical tips for the day
- Wear shoes with grip: the steps can be wet near the falls.
- Bring a light layer, even in summer, as the spray and shade feel cool at the bottom.
- Carry some cash in small notes for drinks, the boat if not booked, and tips.
- Keep food out of sight near the macaques and never hand them anything.
- Tell us the ages of children when you book so we plan the right pace.

Frequently asked questions
What is included in the private Ouzoud tour?
The tour includes a private vehicle with driver for your group only, the return trip from Marrakech, pickup at your hotel or at the nearest point to your riad, and a local guide at Ouzoud for the walk to the falls and the viewpoints. The boat ride and lunch are options you can add when you book. Drinks, tips and personal purchases are not included.
How long is the Ouzoud day tour?
Plan a full day of about 10 to 11 hours. Pickup is usually around 8:00, the drive takes about three hours each way, and you spend about three to four hours at the falls. You are back in Marrakech in the early evening. We confirm the exact pickup time after booking, as it depends on your location and the season.
Why have a guide at Ouzoud rather than just a driver?
The driver drives and stays with the vehicle. The local guide walks with you and knows the paths on both banks, the viewpoints with the clearest view of the three tiers, where the boats leave and which terraces are pleasant for lunch. For a first visit or with children, it saves time and guesswork. Read more on what a local guide does.
Is the walk difficult?
The way down is a paved path with steps and slopes, about 20 minutes at an easy pace, with cafés along it. Coming back up is the tiring part, so take it slowly and stop as often as you like. Comfortable shoes with grip are enough. A pushchair is hard on the steps, so a baby carrier is a better choice.
Can we add the boat ride and lunch?
Yes. Tell us when you send your request and we include them in the total price. The boat is a small flat raft that goes close to the foot of the falls. Lunch is on a terrace by the water. If you want both already arranged plus a guide for your group only, the premium private day bundles everything. See also boat and lunch.
Is there an entrance fee at Ouzoud?
No, entry to the Ouzoud Waterfalls is free. On the private tour, what you pay us covers the vehicle, the driver and the local guide. The only extra costs on site are the options you did not book in advance, drinks, snacks, souvenirs and tips, which are entirely up to you.
When is a good time of year for the Ouzoud tour?
The falls flow all year. Spring usually brings the strongest flow and green surroundings, while late summer is lower and busier, especially at weekends. Winter is cooler and quieter. After heavy rain the water can turn red-brown. Our Ouzoud travel guide explains what to expect month by month.
How do we book the tour?
Send a request with the online form or on WhatsApp at +212 661 454 738 with your date, group size and pickup address. We reply the same day with the total price per vehicle. You then pay a 50% deposit by PayPal or card through PayPal, and the balance in cash to the driver. Cancellation is free up to 48 hours before. Steps on how to book.
